TAFE NSW OFFERING FEE-FREE COURSE TO KICKSTART RETAIL REVIVAL IN COOMA
A new TAFE NSW fee-free course will soon be launched in Cooma to help contribute to the post-COVID retail revival in the local region.
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced that starting on 12 August TAFE NSW Cooma will launch a Certificate I in Retail Services.
It is just one of a number of fee-free vocational education courses on offer in the Monaro, to help the region recover from the devastating bushfires and the ongoing impacts of COVID-19.
“Drought, bushfires and now COVID-19 have had a significant impact on our region but our community is resilient and well on the road to recovery,” Mr Barilaro said.
“As visitors begin returning to our beautiful region, it’s more important than ever they are greeted by friendly faces, both in businesses and in the broader community.
Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee said the NSW Government would continue to support bushfire impacted communities during the recovery period.
“I appreciate there is a real art to customer service and it’s wonderful to see TAFE NSW supporting the community in learning that skill,” he said.
The Certificate I in Retail Services is a five-week course that includes just three days of face-to-face learning, with the remainder completed online.
The course, suited to those currently in the retail sector or considering a career in retail, includes units in communicating in the workplace; working effectively in a service environment; and organising personal work requirements.
Cooma Chamber of Commerce Executive Officer Kylie Douch urged local businesses to consider taking advantage of the fee-free course to upskill staff.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills at TAFE NSW and there is ample evidence that staff training not only increases skills and knowledge, but also motivates performance in the workplace,” Ms Douch said.
