MORE IMPROVEMENTS FOR COOMA’S MUCH-LOVED LIONS PARK

August 28, 2020

The latest upgrade to Lions Park in Cooma has been officially unveiled today, with Member for
Monaro John Barilaro and Snowy Monaro Regional Mayor Peter Beer joining members of the
Cooma Lions Club to mark the exciting milestone.

The significant project saw a number of upgrades to the recreational area on Yallakool Road,
including the installation of new barbeques, shaded picnic facilities and improvements to the offleash dog area.
Mr Barilaro said the very welcome additions to the popular park was thanks to more than
$414,000 in funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
“Lions Park is one of Cooma’s most popular parks, and I know the community is very excited
about the new and improved facilities now on offer,” Mr Barilaro said.
“A lot of hard work has gone into improving this important community space, and that is largely
thanks to the commitment from the Cooma Lions Club.
“Lions Park is a popular area amongst locals and visitors alike, and the recent upgrades will
ensure it remains a much-loved space for many years to come.
“On top of the addition of new barbeques and picnic facilities, the funding has also allowed us to
widen the park’s entrance, seal the access road and improve the parking area. This will ensure
visitors, especially those in caravans, have easy access to the wonderful facilities.
“Cooma is already a popular rest stop for those travelling to the ski fields or down to the beautiful
South Coast, and the upgrades to Lions Park will help encourage visitors will stay in town longer
to see all Cooma has to offer.”
Mayor Beer thanked Mr Barilaro and the Cooma Lions Club for all their efforts in helping the
upgrades come to fruition.
“Council has worked closely with the NSW Government and the Cooma Lions Club to deliver a
project that the community will love,” Cr Beer said.
"The Cooma Lions Club is a fantastic community group who contribute so much to our region, and
I thank them for all of their hard work and dedication.”
