Bombala Platypus Reserve improvements swimming along

September 4, 2020

Member for Monaro John Barilaro joined Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor Peter Beer today to inspect the latest improvements to the Bombala Platypus Reserve.

Mr Barilaro said the additions to the popular destination were thanks to more than $243,000 in funding from the NSW Government.
“Bombala is known as platypus country and it is only right that everyone in the community has the facilities they need to enjoy what the region has to offer,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The community were calling out for this reserve to be made more accessible and safe. Thanks to two separate funding injections, the NSW Government was able to work with Snowy Monaro Regional Council to deliver safer entrance roads, new pathways with handrails and a wheelchair accessible picnic table.
“Improvements were also made to the overall feel of the reserve, to ensure the area remains a welcoming destination for years to come. “As the weather begins to warm up, families and those travelling through Bombala will be able to enjoy this new and improved destination and hopefully catch a glimpse of our famous platypus.”
Mayor Beer said the much-needed upgrades will ensure visitors to the popular spot have more
opportunities to see the much loved native animal.
“Thank you to Mr Barilaro and the NSW Government for this investment, which I know is very
welcome for locals and those travelling through Bombala. “While at the moment we’re unable to welcome any interstate visitors, I encourage anyone visiting Bombala to check out the Platypus Reserve and its recent improvements.”
Minor drainage works and the final touches on landscaping will be completed over the coming months.
