Member for Monaro John Barilaro joined Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council
Mayor Tim Overall today to announce $1 million has been secured to move ahead with
the major upgrade to the Braidwood Memorial Pool.

Mr Barilaro said today marked an exciting day for Braidwood, with the pool a prominent
part of the town.
“Built in 1966 the Braidwood Memorial Pool is a much-loved and important centre for
sport and recreation in Braidwood and surrounds,” Mr Barilaro said.
“However, the facilities are in major need of a makeover and I am excited to be joining
Mayor Overall to announce the next step in this upgrade.”
Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government grant has now been secured, allowing QPRC to
move ahead with its plans.
“This funding will allow a range of upgrades to take place including the installation of
solar heating. The community will be able to enjoy all the pool has to offer for a much
longer period,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Stage one will see the entire facility modernised, with the change rooms and kiosk set
to undergo a major makeover.”
The upgrade will deliver a modernised amenities block with disability and family friendly
facilities, replacing the current change rooms which are outdated and not enclosed.
The kiosk will undergo major improvement works, with the option being explored of
making it a year-round facility to service the adjacent Ryrie Park and it’s recently
upgraded playground.
Cr Overall thanked Mr Barilaro and the NSW Government and said this significant
investment will benefit generations to come.
“This funding will go a long way to providing Braidwood and surrounding communities
with the pool they deserve,” Mr Overall said.
“The community has worked incredibly hard to progress this project and I look forward to
everyone enjoying the facility when the upgrades are complete.”
The announcement of funding from Mr Barilaro comes as QPRC continues current work
to reseal and retile the pool.
