WOMEN OF QUEANBEYAN SHINE IN NEW CALENDAR

Member for Monaro John Barilaro is congratulating the organisers of the Women of Queanbeyan Calendar after the successful launch of their 2020 calendar on Saturday night.
The calendar is the long-time dream of Gillian Southwell and Paulene Leake who have been raising funds for the cancer support group Rise Above.
Gillian and Paulene have spent the past 10 months preparing the calendar for publication and are dedicating it to their friend Yvonne Cuschieri OAM who foundered Rise Above in 1985.
“Rise Above is a wonderful organisation that has assisted many in our community, Yvonne and the team have done so much to ensure help is available for people who need it most,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Which is why I announced the NSW Government would support the Women of Queanbeyan Calendar fundraiser with $10,000 going to Rise Above.
“It was fantastic to see the incredible support from the Queanbeyan community for this great initiative.
“We live in a very compassionate region and this was truly highlighted on Saturday night.
“I congratulate Gillian and Paulene along with the many other volunteers who assisted in making this calendar a reality, the support of this cause has far exceeded all expectations.”
The committee auctioned an enlarged print of each photo included in the calendar and have raised over $86,000 so far.
“We certainly did not expect this level of support, we are humbled that so many people have come on board with our idea,” the organisers said.
“We have such a diverse range of women who are included in the calendar.
“It was an absolute pleasure to work with these local women, who in their own right have gone above and beyond for our community.”
The Women of Queanbeyan Calendar committee were also recent recipients of a Monaro Service Award for their efforts to support Rise Above.
