Anglers in the Monaro are invited to contribute to the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ (DPI) Trout Strategy through participating in a series of regional workshops, Member for Monaro John Barilaro said today.

Mr Barilaro said the department is hosting a series of workshops across the state, including in Jindabyne on 17 May.

“NSW DPI is seeking our community’s input and ideas on the range of issues affecting the recreational trout fishery,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The workshops will include presentations from the industry, DPI fisheries researchers, fisheries managers and conservation managers.”

Mr Barilaro said trout fishery in the Monaro provides a range of important social, economic and historic values and benefits to the local community.

“Fishing is an important part of our community and I encourage those with an interest in the future of recreational trout fishery to participate in the workshop in May,” he said.

“This will ensure our community’s views are incorporated into the NSW Trout Strategy.

The workshops will include breakout and question sessions, providing opportunities for members of the public to ask questions, discuss concerns and raise new ideas relating to their trout fishery.

The local workshop will be held on 17 May, from 3:45pm to 8:00pm, at Rydges Horizons Snowy Mountains, Jindabyne (10 Kosciuszko Road, Jindabyne).

Mr Barilaro said those interested in attending the workshop must register by Friday 27th April 2018 at https://goo.gl/forms/jK6otiUaPLj2Ev5G2.

“It’s a great opportunity for all stakeholders to discuss current issues and potential management options for the NSW recreational trout fishery,” he said.
