Regional NSW leads states in jobs growth
Friday, 28th July 2017
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today discussed recent ABS jobs data showing that regional NSW is leading the way in driving jobs growth across the state.
Between the 2015 state election and June 2017, nearly 52,000 jobs have been added in regional NSW, an increase of 4.3 per cent. Regional NSW added more jobs than the regional areas of Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania combined.
Mr Barilaro described regional NSW as a jobs powerhouse which continues to exceed employment expectations.
“These figures show that regional NSW is booming, and jobs are being created for the growing number of people wanting to live and work regionally,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Tens of thousands of jobs have been added in regional NSW, and that shows our regions are healthy and thriving, businesses are confident, investment is flowing in, and that is supporting tens of thousands of regional families.
“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government is supporting regional NSW through the $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund to turbo charge local economies and continue to support our record of impressive jobs growth.
“NSW has the lowest unemployment rate of any state in the country – we are the opportunity state, and the people of NSW are grabbing that opportunity with both hands.”
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet added, “Our state’s economy is driving the whole nation, and today’s figures show the people and businesses in regional NSW are doing a huge amount of the heavy lifting.”
