Queanbeyan’s youngest residents now have a brand new playground to enjoy, with Queanbeyan Park’s inclusive playground officially opened by the Member for Monaro John Barilaro and Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Tim Overall today.

“Thanks to $250,000 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Community Fund, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has created a beautiful and enjoyable brand new playground at Queanbeyan Park,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The playground has plenty of features for our town’s kids to enjoy, including a combination slide tower, bike track, inclusive moving whirl and accessible play fort.

“Additionally, the playground includes a new barbecue and shelter, water refill station with two bubblers, and a mushroom house with mushroom table and chairs.

“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government know how important it is for children and families to have access to outdoor playgrounds and community facilities.

“It’s great to be here opening an inclusive and accessible facility with different rides and equipment that children with all abilities can play on together.”

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Tim Overall said that QPRC had retained some of the playground’s original features.

“We have kept the existing undercover area, Jeep spring-rocker and trailer-rocker, and have replaced the seats on some of the swings to include a joey swing and basket swing, making use of some of the park’s features while adding modern and inclusive elements,” Mr Overall said.

“Council have replaced the surfacing and created a fun bike path that weaves around the different playground equipment.

“QPRC have opened the park to a few people so far and we have received fantastic feedback, particularly regarding the park’s inclusive equipment including the accessible play fort and moving whirl.

“The new playground, grassed area and broader park are a perfect location for families to gather and enjoy.” Mr Overall said.

“I’ll have to bring my 3 year old down here, she will love it.” Mr Barilaro added.
