Queanbeyan to host 2019 Women’s NSW Open
Friday, 15 December 2017
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced the Queanbeyan Golf Club will host the 2019 Women’s NSW Open for the first time, attracting more than 100 top female golfers from Australia and the world.
The event was secured by the NSW Government, via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, in a five-year agreement with Golf NSW that will ensure it remains in regional NSW until at least 2022.
Mr Barilaro said the event would immediately follow the Australian Ladies Classic – Bonville, another international women’s golf event secured by the NSW Government, ensuring the best golfers stay on to play in Queanbeyan.
“This is a world-class event on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) Tour and I am delighted that our stunning corner of NSW will host such a prestigious event in 2019,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The Women’s NSW Open will attract an estimated 40 international players from 16 different countries, as well as competitors from all over Australia with more than 100 players set to tee off at Queanbeyan Golf Club.
“The week long tournament will provide the players, their families and supporters with the perfect opportunity to experience everything our region has to offer, from stunning mountain scenery and national parks, to historical towns and world-class food and wine, providing a significant boost to local businesses.” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Golf NSW Stuart Fraser said they were looking forward to showcasing the best of women’s professional golf in Southern NSW.
“Golf NSW, with the support of the NSW Government, is thrilled to be able to bring the Women’s NSW Open to Queanbeyan Golf Club in 2019,” Mr Fraser said.
“It will be exciting to watch some of the sport’s best female athletes competing in regional NSW for one of Australia’s most prestigious state Open championships.”
The 2018 Women’s NSW Open will be held at Coffs Harbour Golf Club from 1 – 4 March, with the dates for the 2019 event in Queanbeyan to be announced at a later date.
