NSW BUDGET: FUNDING INJECTION FOR NEW QUEANBEYAN POLICE STATION
Tuesday, 19 June 2018
The soon-to-be constructed Queanbeyan Police Station has received a significant funding boost of nearly $10 million, Member for Monaro John Barilaro announced today.
This funding allocation forms part of the NSW Liberals & Nationals’ $20 million commitment to support officers from the Monaro Police District with a new police station.
Mr Barilaro said Queanbeyan Station is the headquarters for the Monaro Police District and it is vital that local and regional officers are equipped with the best resources, equipment and a modern work-base.
“Officers from Monaro Police District do an outstanding job across a diverse region, as evidenced by the most recent crime statistics which show that all 17 crime categories remained stable,” said Mr Barilaro.
“I want to ensure our crime rates remain low and the best way to achieve this is to increase the capability of our local men and women in blue via state-of-the-art police facilities.
“The safety of our community is paramount and I am proud to be delivering on my 2015 campaign commitment – to provide Queanbeyan a modern, purpose-built police station that can service the region for generations to come.”
Minister for Police Troy Grant said community safety is one of the highest priorities of the Liberals & Nationals Government and this investment highlights that commitment.
“With a more spacious working environment for officers and the latest crime-fighting tools and resources, the new state-of-the-art station will bolster the capability of local police,” said Mr Grant.
“Queanbeyan police officers do exceptional work. They put their lives on the line each and every day to protect their local community, bring criminals to justice and support victims of crime.
“The new $20 million police station heralds a new era for the Monaro Police District.”
