New storage shed shines at Cooma Car Club
The Member for Monaro John Barilaro has officially opened a new storage facility at Cooma Monaro Historic Automobile Club made possible through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund.
Funding to the tune of $50 000 was used to build a brand new storage shed at the back of the car club.
Mr Barilaro said he was pleased to support groups that give back to their community.
“The history of motoring in Cooma and across the region is fascinating and deserves to be preserved, that’s why I’m pleased to support this worthwhile project which will help the Cooma Monaro Historic Automobile Club to do so,” said Mr Barilaro.
Mr Barilaro said he was interested to learn that in 1917 there were 28 cars in Cooma.
“The very first motor vehicle was an Alldays & Onions, and Cooma’s first car clubs were established in the 1950s and 1960s,” he added.
The $15m Stronger Communities Fund was secured by Snowy Monaro Regional Council from the NSW State Government and has been used to fund a number of significant infrastructure and community projects across the region.
“The Stronger Communities Fund allows local residents, community groups and councils to work together to deliver infrastructure and services that make a real and lasting difference to the lives of local communities,” said Mr Barilaro.
“Locals have already seen a real benefit from community projects such as this one made possible through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund and I look forward to seeing many more come to fruition.”
