Music to seniors’ ears in Queanbeyan this Christmas
Thursday, 21 December 2017
Seniors from Queanbeyan and surrounds descended on The Q Theatre to join in on the merriment at this year’s Seniors Christmas Concert, Member for Monaro John Barilaro said today.
The event, which is free to all seniors, came to town on Thursday December 21 and featured outstanding performances from musical theatre stars Peter Cousens, his daughter Daisy Cousens, Ashleigh Rubenach, and Australian country music singer Darren Coggan.
The Seniors Christmas Concerts are performed annually and aim to bring joy to older Australians in regional and rural locations across NSW.
Mr Barilaro said the concert was thoroughly enjoyed by local seniors.
“I’m thrilled the Seniors Christmas Concert has rolled into Queanbeyan this year,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Regional towns often miss out on seeing great and affordable talent, so it’s a real treat for our seniors to enjoy this entertainment for free.”
“The NSW Government is committed to funding creative initiatives like the Seniors Christmas Concerts that promote inclusive communities for our older people, which is a priority of the NSW Ageing Strategy 2016-2020.”
Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies, said she had the pleasure of attending the Queanbeyan concert and joining in on the musical festivities.
“The Seniors Christmas Concerts are a fantastic opportunity for older people to get out in their community and celebrate the festive season, and I was honoured to join concert-goers in Queanbeyan,” Mrs Davies said.
“The concerts are very popular and there are only so many seats available, so this year a concert video will be available online for the very first time.”
“I encourage seniors across NSW to get together and enjoy the Australian musical performances over some Christmas cake.”
