MONARO JPs THANKED FOR 50 YEARS OF SERVICE
Member for Monaro John Barilaro has thanked Braidwood’s Mr David Goddard and Bungendore’s Mr David Holloway, for 50 years of service to the community as a Justice of the Peace.
Mr Goddard and Mr Holloway were formally recognised for their service at an award ceremony held at NSW Parliament on Tuesday, October 22.
Mr Barilaro said the service a Justice of the Peace provides is an important role within the community.
“Mr Goddard and Mr Holloway are among the longest-serving JPs in the state. They have given up countless hours helping our local community,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Just about everyone needs a JP at some point in their life and Mr Goddard and Mr Holloway have always been happy to lend a hand.
“JPs are responsible for witnessing countless documents for a range of reasons – such as purchasing a new house or accessing one’s superannuation.”
Mr Goddard and Mr Holloway are among more than 250 NSW JPs who are celebrating their Golden Jubilee of Service in 2018-19.
JPs from across NSW attended a ceremony at Parliament House where they were presented with a commemorative certificate.
The NSW online register of Justices of the Peace has been upgraded to make finding a local JP faster and more convenient.
“The revamped system enables JPs to specify the dates and times they are available and what languages they speak,” Mr Barilaro said.
“As technology changes we have been able to update the register to make finding a JP even easier.”
JPs provide their services on a voluntary basis and act as an independent witness to documents. Their main functions are to witness affidavits, statutory declarations and they may also certify copies of original documents.
