Monaro families to benefit from Active Kids rebate

Monaro families to recieve $100 rebate to help with sporting costs.

Thousands of school children across Monaro will benefit from a new $100 rebate for sporting and fitness related costs announced as part of the NSW budget.

The Member for Monaro John Barilaro said a key initiative from the 2017-2018 Budget will ensure every family with school aged children will be eligible for the ‘Active Kids Rebate’ with $207 million allocated across four years.

“Our Active Kids Rebate will put $100 per school aged child back in the pocket of every parent to help cover the cost of getting their kids into sport across Monaro.

“Thanks to the Government’s strong economic and financial management, and its successful reform agenda, we’re now able to make sport more accessible and reduce barriers to healthy activity,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The Active Kids Rebate will mean savings for thousands of household budgets across Monaro and ensure school aged children can attend team sports as well as recreational programs such as swimming.”

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said families will be able to claim up to $100 per school child, per calendar year from 1 January 2018 for after-school, weekend and school holiday sport and active recreation activities.

“This is a fantastic initiative which aims to reduce cost of living pressures for families and supports the Premier’s priority to reduce overweight and obesity rates of children by five per cent over 10 years,” Mr Ayres said.

“Whether your active child plays sport such as netball, football or basketball; swimming classes or lessons or gymnastics or athletics, this is a huge boost to families and an initiative we’re extremely proud of.”

Parents will be able to register online and can take a sports voucher to a registered sports club or provider to receive their rebate.
