MONARO COMMUNITY ENCOURAGED TO GET READY FOR A TOUGH BUSH FIRE SEASON
Member for Monaro John Barilaro is encouraging all residents in the region to make sure they are ready for a potentially long and challenging bush fire season.
Mr Barilaro said this weekend is ‘Get Ready Weekend’ and it is the perfect opportunity for families to get to know their local firefighters and find out about the fire risk in their area.
“In recent weeks we’ve seen how quickly fires can spread and the devastation they can cause. Now is the time to get ready and find out what support you need.
“With a forecast of ongoing dry and warm conditions, it’s vital we all prepare for a potentially long bush fire season,” Mr Barilaro said.
Minister for Emergency Services David Elliott said the first step to keep your family and property safe is knowing your bush fire risk, which your local brigade can help you assess.
“RFS volunteers are an invaluable source of knowledge and can provide advice on preparing your bush fire plan, preparing your property and planning with neighbours,” Mr Elliot said.
Every resident in NSW should take four crucial steps to keep their families and property safe from bush fire:
Discuss what to do if a bush fire threatens your home
Prepare your home and get it ready for bush fire season
Know the bush fire alert levels
Keep all the bush fire information numbers, websites and Fires Near Me smartphone app handy
This weekend RFS volunteers in communities across the Monaro will host a number of events, including demonstrations, workshops and displays. Find out more about local activities at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/news-and-media/getready.
