MOBILE BLACK SPOT FUNDS DELIVER BETTER COVERAGE FOR BERRIDALE
Monday, 5 February 2018
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced local businesses and residents in Berridale and the Avonside region now have access to extended mobile coverage with the activation at a new mobile base station at Avonside.
Mr Barilaro said it demonstrates the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to eliminating mobile black spots across the State.
“This is fantastic news for Berridale and the Avonside region,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Local residents, businesses and emergency services deserve fast, affordable and reliable coverage and this tower means locals can access Telstra’s 3G and 4GX mobile data services for the first time.
“This new mobile base station in Avonside will make a real difference to the lives of those living in rural and regional areas.”
The Mobile Black Spots program has already delivered 76 of at least 180 new or upgraded mobile base stations in regional NSW. Once complete, the program will have fixed at least 795 mobile phone black spots and provided additional coverage over more than 14,000 square kilometres.
Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government has committed $39 million to the much-needed program and he was closely monitoring its progress.
“It can be incredibly frustrating when a lack of phone coverage means you can’t keep in touch with family, friends or even operate your own business,” Mr Barilaro said.
“I’m thrilled communities across the state are seeing improvements and are able to carry on building their businesses and living their lives without worrying about network interruption.”
