Member for Monaro John Barilaro has today announced that construction of the Queanbeyan Police Station has taken the next step.

“During the 2015 campaign I committed to delivering a new police station for Queanbeyan, and I am proud to be announcing that construction is expected to commence on this project early in the second half of this year,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The NSW Government has been working with Queanbeyan Police to find a solution that provides our men and women in uniform with a safe, purpose-built and future-proofed building.”

Mr Barilaro said concept designs for a new police station to be located on the current site next to the Queanbeyan Local Court are underway.

“The NSW Government is expecting the detailed concept design and planning approval to be finalised by the end of April,” he said.

“A tender process will begin shortly after the concept designs are finished, with a sod turning expected to be scheduled soon after this process.

“After consultation with NSW Police and the assessment of geotechnical data on the water issues that are plaguing the current station, it was found that we will be able to overcome the existing water issues, rebuild on the existing site, and make sure that the new station is not affected in the same way.

“The safety of our community is paramount and I am proud to be delivering a facility that will see our local area command housed properly so they can get on with the job and continue protecting our community.” Mr Barilaro said.
