L’Étape Australia by Le Tour de France has won three awards at the prestigious Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Awards.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the multiple awards recognised L’Étape Australia’s status as one of Australia’s premier events.

“I congratulate Lateral Events Australia, organisers of L’Étape Australia, on being awarded Public Event of the Year and Regional Event of the Year at the MEA Awards.

“L’Etape is an incredible event and I know we are proud to have it held here in the Monaro.

“I have no doubt that the beautiful Snowy Mountains location and the support of our community has contributed to the success of the event at the MEA Awards.

“Summer tourism in the Snowy Mountains region is a key focus of the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government and it is very rewarding to see this summer event succeeding at such a high level.”

L’Étape Australia is the Monaro’s own slice of the greatest event in international cycling, the Tour de France, with competitors from around Australia travelling to the Snowy Mountains to take part each year.

Additionally, Lateral Events Australia was named joint winner of the Platinum Award – Company along with Crowne Plaza Terrigal, with the two regional NSW businesses receiving the most points of all submissions across all award categories.

“Events and conferences are a crucial way to fuel our State economy, helping put more shoppers in our boutiques and diners in our restaurants. I am delighted to see two regional NSW businesses leading the way on the national stage,” Mr Barilaro said.

The national MEA gala awards ceremony brought together more than 300 industry leaders to recognise excellence and best business practice in the Meetings & Events Industry.
