JINDABYNE YEAR ROUND TOURISM BOOSTED BY INVESTMENT IN SHARED TRAIL

Wednesday, 28 February 2018

Member for Monaro John Barilaro has today joined Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor John Rooney to announce $150,000 in NSW Government funding for a detailed plan for the Lake Jindabyne shared trail extension.

“Jindabyne is an incredible area and the Lake Jindabyne shared trail allows tourists and locals to enjoy the beautiful setting,” Mr Barilaro said.

“I am proud that the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government is supporting our tourism economy with money to fund the detailed plan, which will allow a quality product to be delivered.

“The Snowy Mountains region is no longer just a winter destination; it is now a region booming with year round tourism and has fast become a popular cycling and mountain biking destination.

“The Lake Jindabyne shared trail network offers riders and walkers an attractive environmental setting to enjoy, and the plan to expand the network will aim to link outer villages and provide connection with the Thredbo Valley Track.” Mr Barilaro said.

The detailed plan for the Lake Jindabyne Shared Trail extension is expected to be completed in October 2018, with on the ground works to commence in February 2019.

Mr Barilaro said this funding was on top of the $50,000 in NSW Government funding previously provided to the Jindabyne Cycling Club in October 2016, which the club is using for other extensions to the trail.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor John Rooney looked forward to the rail network leading to Jindabyne becoming a ‘must ride’ location with a very bright future.

“It’s an exciting time for the region as we take another step towards enhancing our reputation as a world class mountain bike destination,” Mayor Rooney said.

“I look forward to the completion of this significant project.”
