Member for Monaro John Barilaro today visited Monaro High School and Jindabyne Central School to announce significant funding allocated to the schools in the NSW Government’s 2017 – 18 budget.

“The NSW budget was a landmark announcement for the Monaro, with hundreds of millions of dollars going to our local roads, schools, health and police projects,” Mr Barilaro said.

“From this investment, Monaro High School will receive $20 million and Jindabyne Central School will receive $10 million for significant upgrades.

An additional $46 million has been invested state-wide for upgrades to wireless connectivity to more than 900 regional and remote NSW schools through the Connecting Country Schools program.

17 schools across the Monaro have been listed as schools which will benefit from the Connecting Country Schools funding, including Monaro High School and Jindabyne Central School.

“It is exciting that our local schools have been allocated such substantial amounts of money in the latest budget, showing that the NSW Government has a vested interest in ensuring our kids are educated at state-of-the-art and modern schools.

“The NSW Government is backing our country kids and ensuring they are given every opportunity to success at school because they deserve nothing less.

“Monaro High School and Jindabyne Central School are examples of the quality education that we have right here on our back doors. These upgrades will help maintain the high quality of these schools and provide the facilities our community needs and deserves.”

Principal of Monaro High School, Mr Adrian Bell thanked Mr Barilaro and the NSW Government for this substantial funding.

“Thank you Mr Barilaro for your commitment to improving the schools across the Monaro. This welcome funding will see Monaro High School continue to serve the communities of the Monaro with up to date facilities.” Mr Bell said.

“Our community welcomes this funding that will build our school as a centre for innovation and excellence, and in turn prepare our students for their futures.”

Principal of Jindabyne Central School, Ms Debbie-Lee Hughes was also excited by the funding announcement.

“It is fantastic news that Jindabyne Central School has received this important funding that will provide a substantial upgrade to the school’s facilities,” Ms Hughes said.

“This funding will allow the school to further enhance its infrastructure, which will provide a continuum of quality learning for our current and future students.”

Early planning for projects and spending will begin in the coming months.
