One of the Monaro’s oldest recreation grounds is set for an upgrade thanks to funding from the NSW Government, the Member for Monaro John Barilaro said today.

Mr Barilaro said $50,000 will be used to upgrade facilities at the Majors Creek Recreation Ground.

“The Majors Creek Recreation Ground is steeped in social and cultural history and it’s the heart of this small yet vibrant community,” said Mr Barilaro.

“The funding will be used to upgrade BBQ facilities and seal the main access road into the recreation ground, which is currently unsafe.

“I hope this project will go a long way in acknowledging how important this facility is for the community and the region at large.”

Majors Creek Recreation Reserve Crown Land Management Board President Rudi Stachow said the recreation ground has a long history to be proud of.

“Majors Creek Recreation Ground has been in existence since 1893 and is home to one of the longest standing social events on the NSW calendar, the Majors Creek picnic and sports day, which has been running since the gold rush in 1862.

“It’s a special place for the Majors Creek community, this upgrade will go a long way in ensuring it’s up to scratch for future generations to enjoy.”
