COOMA’S HEALTH TOP PRIORITY AS BARILARO VISITS HOSPITAL
Monday, 25 June 2018
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today visited Cooma Hospital and joined local health professionals for a tour and discussion regarding the NSW Government’s $18.6 million upgrade to the hospital and the Government’s announcement of 1370 new medical professionals for NSW.
With $10 million already on the table, Mr Barilaro recently announced the NSW Government’s commitment of a further $8.6 million towards the extensive project.
“It was great to join local staff to have a first-hand look at the areas that will be significantly upgraded by the investment,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The funding will be used to upgrade the emergency department and maternity ward, upgrade the radiology services, and refurbish the entry and patient waiting areas.
“This is very exciting news for Cooma and surrounds. Today I have been able to discuss the changes with the people on the ground and I know the upgrade is a welcomed project.
“Patients deserve the very best facilities, and nurses, doctors and support staff need the very best work environments.
“This upgrade will allow our medical professionals to get on with their job and focus on their patients and their families, while giving patients the peace of mind that they are in the best hands and best facility.”
The NSW Government announced a significant investment in health with funding for 1370 new medical jobs across the state. The Government will fund positions for 950 new nurses and midwives, 300 additional doctors and 120 additional allied health workers.
“Our government is looking at the bigger picture when it comes to health care, and the commitment to fund vital infrastructure projects together with additional health care professionals is a winning combination,” Mr Barilaro said.
