CHRISTMAS BOOST TO DROUGHT TRANSPORT SUBSIDY FOR FARMERS
To ensure farmers can continue to access support to transport fodder, stock and other farm inputs the NSW Nationals have announced a boost to the Government’s Emergency Drought Transport Subsidy.
Member for Monaro John Barilaro said that from today the cap for the subsidy would increase to $50,000 per eligible primary producer this financial year.
“Travelling across the State the impacts of this drought are clear and in the Monaro it is no different. We are standing side by side with our farmers to help them through what is the worst drought on record,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The NSW Nationals are committed to helping farmers who are doing it tough and I know this increase will give them some much-needed breathing space.
“This is an immediate injection to increase the scale of the subsidy and it will help ensure our drought affected communities get the support they need during this crisis.” Since 2018, more than 14,500 applications have been approved, paying out more than $120 million. The Emergency Drought Transport Subsidy provides drought affected farmers in NSW with subsidies for the transport of fodder, water and stock and other farm inputs, like chemical or seed. Subsidies may be used to transport: Stock to and from agistment; Stock to sale or slaughter; Fodder or water to stock on drought affected properties.
