BUNGENDORE WAR MEMORIAL SOIL COLLECTED FOR NSW ANZAC CENTENARY PROJECT

Friday, 9 March 2018

Member for Monaro John Barilaro has today joined representatives from Bungendore’s War Memorial Committee to collect soil for the NSW Government’s Anzac Memorial Centenary Project Soil Collection.

The NSW Government is upgrading the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park to include a water cascade, new education and exhibition spaces, and storage for the Memorial’s collection.

Mr Barilaro said artwork at the Memorial will display soil collected from over 1,600 NSW towns, suburbs and locations which represent the home towns and locations of the First World War enlistees.

“It is an honour to be collecting this soil which will be displayed in both a reverent and educational manner,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Young Australian soldiers from all parts of NSW volunteered and served our country in the Great War.

“This project will give them a fitting memorial with ties back to their communities, who will never forget the service they gave.”

The Anzac Memorial upgrade will be complete in late 2018.
