BRAIDWOOD LIGHTS UP WITH REC GROUND FUNDING
Monday, 12th March 2018
Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced $380,000 in NSW Government funding for a significant project in Braidwood.
Mr Barilaro said Braidwood will soon see the installation of flood lighting on two fields at the Recreation Grounds thanks to this funding.
“With the support of the NSW Liberals and Nationals Government, Braidwood’s sports teams and users of the recreation grounds will be able to enjoy the fields well into the night,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The installation of flood lighting in Braidwood means our local teams can run night training and evening games all year round.
“The upgrade will light up Braidwood and the six new poles will benefit the community for years to come.
The Braidwood Recreation Grounds are used by various sporting clubs including junior soccer, junior and senior rugby league and rugby union clubs, local youth who use the BMX track and youth involved in ‘Braidwood Community Life’ activities.
“This funding is about allowing our community to spend time together enjoying the things the love, without the hassle of watching the sun to decide how much longer they can stay on the recreation ground,” Mr Barilaro said.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Tim Overall joined Mr Barilaro for the announcement.
“The funding announced by Mr Barilaro is gratefully received by Council on behalf of the Braidwood community,” Mr Overall said.
“Without lights, the many sporting teams that play and train here have been restricted to daylight hours.
“QPRC are looking forward to work starting on this major project which will revitalise sporting in Braidwood.”
The funding comes from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, which aims to increase social amenity and support regional communities through investment in significant community infrastructure. More information is available at www.nsw.gov.au/strongercountrycommunities.
