BE HERE IN QUEANBEYAN FOR ‘BE HERE’ FESTIVAL
Monday, 26 February 2018
Member for Monaro John Barilaro has today presented Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council with a $20,000 grant for Queanbeyan’s ‘Be Here’ Festival, which will be held this weekend 3 – 4 March.
The funding comes from Round One of the NSW Government’s 2018 Incubator Event Fund, which is designed to support the region’s newest events, with the aim for these events to grow and continue while boosting the local visitor economy.
“The Queanbeyan ‘Be Here’ Festival will be held over two days and will showcase Queanbeyan and surrounds,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The beautiful setting, delicious food, market stalls and cultural acts on the main stage are aimed at encouraging locals and visitors to ‘be here’ and to experience the Queanbeyan region.
“I am so pleased that this funding will be injected into the Queanbeyan region’s tourism economy and used to boost our city as a destination full of culture, activity and fun.
“The festival will be spread across Queanbeyan, beginning with a performance by the Canberra Symphony Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth II Park by the Queanbeyan River on Saturday night, before continuing in the iconic Queanbeyan Town Park on Sunday.
“The ‘Be Here’ Festival will make sure visitors and locals know what many of us are already aware of – that Queanbeyan is an incredible town to stay in, play in and live in.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Tim Overall welcomed the funding and said that the Council is looking forward to this weekend’s event.
“The ‘Be Here’ Festival is a bold event like nothing seen in this region before,” Mr Overall said.
“With live music, exciting cultural experiences and interactive elements, it is a new and deliberately ambitious approach to event production in the region.
“The festival showcases what our region currently has to offer, and will inspire our future as a community and as a tourist destination.”
The Incubator Event Fund is part of the expanded Regional Flagship Events Program which also includes the Flagship Event Fund and the Event Development Fund.
