BARILARO’S BIG NEWS FOR TIGERETTES
Monday, 18 March 2019
The Queanbeyan Tigers Australian Football Club is cheering today following an announcement from the Member for Monaro, John Barilaro.
Mr Barilaro visited the club to announce a re-elected NSW Liberals and Nationals Government will boost the Tigerettes, the Queanbeyan Tigers Women’s Team, with a funding injection of $590,000.
“Since 1925, the Queanbeyan Tigers have been a part of the fabric of our city, and over the years they have not only grown their men’s side, they’ve also come out strong with fantastic women’s teams,” Mr Barilaro said.
“That’s why I’m announcing funding to build brand new change rooms, toilets and a match day team room for the Tigerettes and our local female teams.”
Mr Barilaro said the current facilities date back to the 1980s when predominately men played the sport, which has left the club with facilities that do not fit the bill for women’s participation.
“AFL is no longer a men’s sport. The Queanbeyan Tigers have transformed their club and are very encouraging of their female teams, and I’m excited to be helping the Tigers and the Tigerettes as they transform their clubhouse and facilities,” he said.
Mr Barilaro said this funding is on top of the $450,000 delivered for upgrades to the club in 2018.
“Last year, our Government funded the club’s brand new $450,000 flood lighting to light up the grounds and allow for more night games and night-time training, but of course this means more electricity is being used by the club,” he said
“That’s why part of this funding will be used for the installation of solar panels at the clubhouse. Electricity is a substantial cost for the Tigers, and the club will see major benefits when it comes time to pay the bills.”
Queanbeyan Tigers General Manager Adrian Pavese said the club is incredibly excited by the news.
“John Barilaro has continuously been a major supporter of the Tigers and the Tigerettes”, Mr Pavese said.
“His advocacy and personal support for the club has been tremendous, but today’s announcement just blows it out of the water.
“The new facilities will accommodate the many varied teams that use the facility for training and match day, including representative teams, NEAFL teams, school teams and GIANTS Development Squads.
“On behalf of the entire Queanbeyan Tigers Club, in particular our growing Tigerettes side, thank you to Mr Barilaro for his support in the past, and for his continued assistance going forward.”
