BARILARO GETS IT OVER THE LINE WITH FUNDING FOR NEW WHITES RUGBY FACILITY
Tuesday, 21 August 2018
There were cheers from a crowd of white today as the Member for Monaro John Barilaro gathered with the Queanbeyan Whites Rugby Union Club to announce funding for a brand new change room and gymnasium building for the club.
The $350,000 project will see the construction of a new building at Campese Oval, comprised of a women’s change room, toilets, a weights room and gym, a new storage room for the club and a referee’s room and office.
“The Queanbeyan Whites have been part of the Queanbeyan region for almost 65 years now, and it is great to be supporting our club with funding for this incredible, brand new facility,” Mr Barilaro said.
“There’s nothing like watching the Whites play at home, with huge crowds and teams of eager, driven players. These players strap on their gear and get out there and give it their all, all season long, and they are deserving of the best facilities here at Campese Oval.”
Queanbeyan Whites President Ian Darmody said the club was thrilled by the announcement made by Mr Barilaro.
“This new building will really boost our club from amateur to semi-professional,” Mr Darmody said.
“With interest in rugby union in the region growing, our current change rooms and facilities are congested, with gym equipment stored all over the place.
“The new building will give us a proper gym, storage facilities and expanded change rooms, benefitting the Whites and visitor teams.
“This is a step forward for our men’s and women’s teams, giving our women’s teams access to dressing rooms and change rooms, and allowing all players to step up their game thanks to a gymnasium for proper strength and conditioning training.”
