Member for Monaro John Barilaro today announced new pilot reforms to make it easier for restaurants, cafes and takeaways in the Queanbeyan-Palerang local government area to add an outdoor dining space to their business.

Mr Barilaro was in Queanbeyan today to meet with WokitUp owner Jamie Singh, who opened the Wokitup! restaurant in Queanbeyan in October 2017.

“Jamie’s one of the first business owners in Queanbeyan to apply for an outdoor dining permit under the new streamlined application process.

“With summer coming it’s the perfect time for local food businesses to take advantage of this trial which slashes red tape to support alfresco dining.

“The Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner has worked with local councils, Service NSW, Roads and Maritime Services and Liquor & Gaming NSW to develop a simpler outdoor dining policy and application process.

“The outdoor dining trial involves a single application form and fast-tracked approval process for restaurants, cafes and takeaway, with all fees waived for eligible businesses until June 2018.

Mr Barilaro said the Outdoor Dining trial builds on the Government’s award winning Easy to do Business initiative.

“The NSW Government is committed to making this State the easiest to start and grow a business and I’m delighted Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is on board our Easy to do Business initiative, showing it is truly a small business friendly council.

“Previously to start up a café, restaurant or small bar, small businesses would have had to deal with up to 13 agencies, 75 regulations, up to 30 phone numbers and complete 48 forms.

“Under Easy to do Business the NSW Government has reduced this to one phone number and one online form,” Mr Barilaro said.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor Tim Overall said “the Easy to do Business initiative is a brilliant program that cuts red tape, cost and complexity and I encourage local businesses to take advantage of these changes that will help boost our economy and the vibrancy of our city.”
